I found it easier to remove the plastic trim beside between the start button and the steering wheel. This gave me access to the back of the start button.
From there just a bit of force to push the button out from behind, and it popped out safely.
You could also yank the start button out if you have good grip, or pry it out with a trim tool. However prying out with a trim tool may risk damaging your trim, so becareful if going with that route.

Installation was extremely easy, just take out a screw, pull the panel and then you can easily push it out. Makes the interior look nicer, should had been like this from factory.

Great product! Very happy with the look. I would have preferred the other model that has a larger STI logo and wrapped text but I didn't want to gamble getting the wrong one based on reviews on ft86club.com. The button doesn't have the mechanical click like the factory one, which I don't miss! Very nice finish.
- Installation tips
Tape off areas surrounding push start button holder. push console part from behind or place fingers into phone holder opening and pull out. I would recommend drapping a towel or rag over your console to avoid scratching.
